Zoo, Arts, and Parks tax renewal

Dear Friends of Wasatch Community Gardens,
Wasatch Community Gardens would like to take this opportunity to educate our supporters about Salt Lake County Proposal #1: Zoo, Arts, and Parks (ZAP) tax renewal.   The mission of the ZAP Program is to enhance Salt Lake County resident and visitor experiences through art, cultural, and recreational offerings. ZAP is a two-time voter approved 1/10th of 1% sales tax that was first supported by Salt Lake County voters in 1996 and renewed in 2004 that helps support and enhance our local Zoo, Arts and Parks and Recreation throughout Salt Lake County. Voters now have the opportunity to renew this program (with no increase) as County Proposal #1, on the last page of the ballot.

Who Receives ZAP Funding?

Along with more than 30 parks, trails and recreational facilities and over 160 arts, cultural, and zoological organizations, Wasatch Community Gardens is a recipient of ZAP funding. ZAP funding is a critical source of support for our Community Gardening and Education programs, allowing us to offer the following events, programs, and workshops each year:

  • Urban Garden & Farm Tour
  • Tomato Sandwich Party
  • Plant Sale
  • Volunteer Appreciation Banquet
  • Growing Community Gardens Leadership Training Series
  • Garden Network Program, supporting new and existing community and school garden projects
  • More than 40 educational workshops, covering topics ranging from beekeeping and urban chicken care to organic gardening and cooking.

Community Impact

Annually, an estimated 3.8 million people receive free admission to an arts or cultural event funded by ZAP. Wasatch Community Gardens is able to provide free and low-cost community events and workshops each year because of ZAP funds.

Wasatch Community Gardens encourages you to vote on this proposal on your early voting ballot or in person on November 4. To find out more information about ZAP renewal, please visit the renewzap.com website.
